Coastal San Diego doesn't really get a fall. It gets a second summer with shorter days, smaller crowds, and a busy event calendar. This is one of the biggest weekends of the season, so here's what's going on along the coast this week.

Del Mar Fall Racing Season Opens

The Bing Crosby Season at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club runs through November 29, with racing Fridays through Sundays and a special Thanksgiving Day card. Opening day is Friday, November 6, and general admission starts around $8. Expect live racing, ocean breezes, and the same "where the turf meets the surf" feel as the summer meet with fewer people.

Fleet Week San Diego (Nov 6–15)

Fleet Week San Diego returns to the waterfront November 6–15. Event listings center on Broadway Pier (1000 N. Harbor Drive), with public ship tours, the USS Midway, a Fleet Week boat parade, a Meet-the-Fleet showcase, STEM days for students, and military flyovers. Last year's pier events were canceled during the federal shutdown, so check fleetweeksandiego.org for the final schedule before you go.

San Diego Food + Wine Festival (Nov 6–8)

This is the region's biggest culinary weekend. Listings show Icons + Legends on Friday, Nov 6, the Grand Tasting on Saturday, Nov 7, and the Grand Fiesta on Sunday, Nov 8, plus chef dinners throughout the week. Buy tickets early because the Grand Tasting usually sells out.

San Diego Beer Week (Nov 6–15)

San Diego calls itself the Capital of Craft, and San Diego Beer Week backs that up with ten days of tap takeovers, brewer dinners, and festivals across the county. Many coastal breweries, from Oceanside to Ocean Beach, host special releases during the week.

Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov 11)

With Fleet Week in town, Veterans Day week is especially meaningful in San Diego. Look for ceremonies, museum events, and community gatherings around the bay and in coastal cities.
